If you received health benefits while employed, on being terminated, you are entitled to continue those benefits at your cost for a period of 18 months.  If an employer fails to provide you with an opportunity to continue those benefits, and you end up incurring a lot of medical costs because you suddenly find yourself without health insurance, there may be a way to force your ex-employer to cover those costs..
